Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, MP, has emphasised the value of investing in women and girls. “The value of investing in women and girls affirms the importance of sexual and reproductive health, including family planning, as a precondition for women empowerment” says Minister Zulu.
Minister Zulu was visiting the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children, as a precursor to the tabling of the Department of Social Development Budget Vote, earlier today.
When encouraging determination in creating sustainable livelihood, Minister Zulu echoed, “What I saw on the wall here written by one of the women, “I will rise. No matter how many times I fall, I will rise”.
Minister Zulu committed the Department of Social Development, and government as a whole to work closely together with communities to activate economic development. “What people want is to be able to do things for themselves. Social Development is about the well-being of all of us”, added Minister Zulu.
While addressing communities, members of various Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and Faith-based organisation (FBOs) that gathered at the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children, Minister Zulu also called communities, both men and women to be humane and never give up to support others. She advised communities to support local businesses, and buy products that they develop.
