Minister Zulu calls on SASSA staff to build a South Africa they will be proud to live in

The Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, MP, has called on SASSA employees to be agents of change through services that add value in families, communities, especially to the lives of beneficiaries.
“We have one mandate – a mandate of supporting our people. We are here to assist our communities, especially the vulnerable”, added Minister Zulu. Speaking to SASSA staff members, linked across all regions, Minister Zulu’s maiden address called for a portfolio approach to advancing the Social Development agenda. “Look at the big picture…Don’t see yourself in isolation to the broader agenda – to unite, appreciate and lean on each other to deliver services for our people in the best way possible for the future…We must see ourselves as an agency of Social Development, working with NDA”, she added. Minister Zulu’s welcoming note also highlighted the priorities for SASSA, which amongst others include creating a clean state entity, including a strong and robust management.
According to Minister Zulu, economic development is vital in improving the lives of beneficiaries, thus “SASSA can empower our communities to empower themselves”. SASSA, as part of the Social Development family, has the obligation to work with all spheres of governments that can also contribute to assisting people to improve themselves. “We must enable our regions to be creative to easily and quickly respond”, added Minister Zulu.
Focusing on ensuring that SASSA delivers quality services to beneficiaries, Minister Zulu also committed to help create an energizing and better working environment for employees. “I am here to strengthen institutions of governance – people have recourse, as employees and beneficiaries”, said Minister Zulu. Various messages from SASSA staff members showed support and welcomed Minister Zulu to her new portfolio.
