Thousands of social grants beneficiaries across the country received their money through the South African Post Office at various pay points today 08 October 2018.
This marks a major milestone as government has now taken over the responsibility from Cash Paymaster Services whose contract came to an end recently.
Minister of Social Development Ms Susan Shabangu witnessed this major milestone at the Sebokeng paypoint in the Vaal where she assured beneficiaries that government will continue to pay their grants without fail.
- SASSA Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr Abraham Mahlangu was at Mbuzini in Mpumalanga to ensure that payment runs smoothly. Mahlangu told hundreds of beneficiaries that today marks the beginning of an era free of challenges that beneficiaries had to endure at the hands of the previous service provider. He said that SASSA will pay their grants through the new SASSA card which enables them to get paid at merchants, post offices, banks and pay points.
The Acting CEO emphasized that the new SASSA card does not allow for deductions other than for funeral cover which should not exceed ten percent of the grant amount.
- The October payment cycle began on 29 September for those beneficiaries accessing their money through merchants, banks and the post office.
