The South African Social Security Agency has successfully piloted the new enrolment and card issuance system on new applicants of social grants at a number of identified sites throughout the country. Acting SASSA CEO Pearl Bengu led processes in Worcester on Tuesday 17 April 2018 to test the system.
Working closely with the South African Post Office, SASSA today issued new cards to beneficiaries at a local office in Seshego, Limpopo.
Speaking at the same occasion, Limpopo MEC for social development Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana urged beneficiaries to take care of their new SASSA cards and not to allow loan sharks and other unscrupulous business merchants to tap into their grants. She assured them that with the introduction of the new card, no deductions will go off their grants except those authorized by beneficiaries in line with Regulation 26A.
Limpopo Acting Regional Executive Manager for SASSA Tshidi Mamabolo described the moment as important in the lives of beneficiaries urging all staff to continue assisting beneficiaries with commitment and professionalism. She told beneficiaries that the system will prevent anyone to commit fraudulent activities on their grants.
Elated beneficiaries welcomed the working relationship between Sassa and Sapo and expressed hope that the problems of deductions are resolved for good.
Existing beneficiaries of social grants will be notified soon to visit offices and other identified areas to swap the current SASSA card and be issued with new ones.
