Scores of beneficiaries and general members of the public flocked to the South African Social Security Agency exhibition stand at the Rand show to enquire about a number of issues pertaining to the payment of social grants. Amongst some of the key issues that were raised by visitors included the R10 deductions on their grants, change of payment methods, and the introduction of the new SASSA card, the expiry of the current card, the agreement with the post office and whether pay points will continue to operate.
Their enquiries were handled on the spot and some matters that required further investigations were referred to the customer care unit at head office to deal with. Beneficiary enquiries that needed to be checked on the Socpen system were done on the spot as there were Regional officials operating the system to ensure that visitors are offered a more comprehensive service beyond providing information about SASSA services and responding to the current topical issues.
Those who came into contact with the SASSA brand at the show left elated, relieved, were assisted and felt SASSA’s warmth and caring nature. The Rand show ran for 10 days from 30 March to 08 April 2018 and attracted thousands of people.
