Minister of Social Development Susan Shabangu visited paypoints around the Vaal area earlier today to monitor payment processes and interact with beneficiaries of social grants.
During her interactions with beneficiaries at Bophelong and Sebokeng, Minister Shabangu assured them that grants will continue to be paid through methods of their choice. She emphasized that the partnership with the South African Post Office will yield positive results.
She further told grants recipients that deductions are going to be curbed. "I want to assure all of you that with the introduction of the new SASSA card, the problems of deductions will be a thing of the past. Loan sharks will not haunt you anymore", she said to thunderous applause from beneficiaries.
Beneficiaries raised their concerns about lack of facilities, bank charges, the green card as some of the issues that require urgent attention from the Minister and SASSA.
Responding to these concerns, Minister Shabangu told beneficiaries that government will ensure that there are adequate post office facilities in their localities so that those who wish to receive their grants through the post office do so with ease.
Payment processes are proceeding smoothly across the country today for those who collect their grants at paypoints. The SASSA teams are out at other paypoints to deal with challenges that beneficiaries may experience. The SASSA call centre is also fully operational to take enquiries from the public.
